Unified Threat Management

Unified threat management (UTM) is a term which is used to describe network firewalls that have many features in one box, including anti-spam mail filtering, anti-virus capability, an intrusion detection (or prevention) system (IDS or IPS), and World Wide Web content filtering, along with the traditional activities of a firewall.

 

According to Defzone, a UTM device is defined as a single appliance combining the following functions:

 

- Firewall

- VPN (IPSec and/or SSL)

- Anti-Virus

- Anti-Spam

- URL filtering

- Concent filtering

- Intrusion Prevention System
