Explanation of Anti Spam
Spamming is the abuse of electronic messaging systems to indiscriminately send unsolicited bulk messages. From the beginning of the internet, sending of junk e-mail has been prohibited. Even with a thousand users, using junk e-mail for advertising is not tenable, and with a million users it is not only not practical, but very expensive as well.
Detecting spam based on the content of the e-mail, either by detecting keywords such as "viagra" or by statistical means, is very popular. Such methods can be very accurate when they are correctly tuned to the types of legitimate email that an individual gets, but they can also make mistakes such as detecting the keyword "cialis" in the word "specialist". The content also doesn't determine whether the email was either unsolicited or bulk, the two key features of spam. So, if a friend sends you a joke that mentions "viagra", content filters can easily mark it as being spam even though it is both solicited and not bulk.
What can Defzone do for me ?
Within the Defzone products, the Anti-Spam module detects and handles inappropriate traffic in accordance with the policy you choose (f.i. reject message, accept and discard message, insert spam flag, quarantine message).
We have two type of Anti Spam services one is in combination with The Defzone 300 serie that uses an external server to handle spam scanning. This is a subscription service and is useful for small companies that do not have their own IT management.
Defzone mail gateway Anti Spam service is available on our Defzone 700 and 1650 series. The mail gateway is on the firewall and will be daily updated with spam and virus definitions and other Anti Spam techniques. Defzone saves you time and expenses because you do not have to buy licenses or contracts to use our mail gateway.
